Presidental Dollar Coin Series

Beginning in February of 2007, a new series of $1 coins are being introduced by the United States Mint in accordance with the Presidential Coin Act of 2005. The dollars will commemorate thirty-eight (and possibly more) former US Presidents in the order in which they served in the office. George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison will be honored in the first year of the program. Four new coins will be issued in each calendar year through 2016, ending the series with a dollar featuring President Ronald Reagan. The coins will be remarkable for several reasons including the first use of edge lettering on a US coin in over seventy years.
